A State Comptroller's report released on Monday has determined that the Haifa Bay area maintains its status as one of Israel's  environmental pollution black spots, with little to no change in its air quality over the past four years.

The report criticized the Environmental Protection Ministry for failing to act to reduce the pollution which has led to high morbidity rates for illnesses such as cancer , heart disease and asthma.

Industrial facilities such as refineries, fuel depots, chemical and petrochemical plants in close proximity to population centers is the main cause of the pollution.

KAN's Mark Weiss asked Shai Wolfowitz, an environmental activist from Haifa Bay  Green Course, if he was surprised by the report.
