Israeli officials are currently considering the possibility of conducting a military strike on Iran, with or without the approval of the United States, The New York Times reports.

They believe US President Donald Trump could decide not to stand in the way of such an attack, unlike his predecessor Barack Obama, the paper reported  in an expose that detailed  the Israel-US relationship in the face-off against the Islamic Republic over the past decade.

The report, “The Secret History of the Push to Strike Iran,” said Israel was closer than we think to attacking Iran in 2012.

Reporter Mark Weiss spoke with Ronen Bergman, one of the authors of the report, asking him how close was an Israeli strike in 2012 and what prevented it.
