There was a 62 percent rise in the number of children under the age of 14 who tried to commit suicide in the past decade, according to the annual report of Israel's National Council for the Child, which was presented to President Reuven Rivlin on Tuesday. Among other worrying statistics: a third of all children in Israel lived in poverty in 2018, while the number of at-risk youth continued to rise. Council legal adviser, attorney Carmit Polak-Cohen, told KAN reporter Naomi Segal that while plans exist to address many of the problems, the governmental freeze of the past year has further exacerbated already stretched resources.
