Israel faces an unprecedented constitutional crisis after the High Court of Justice ruled that Knesset Speaker Yuli Edelstein must convene the Knesset plenum by Wednesday to elect a permanent speaker.

Edelstein vowed to reject the Court "ultimatum' as Likud officials accused the judiciary of interfering in the work of the legislative branch.

Former Justice Minister Yossi Beilin says  Edelstein faces possible contempt of court and even jail if he ignores the High Court ruling to instigate a vote on a new speaker.

KAN's Mark Weiss asked Beilin for his take on the standoff between the Knesset speaker and the High Court.
