A top diplomat from the United Arab Emirates, which does not have formal ties with Jerusalem, has warned that unilateral annexation of West Bank territory would endanger Israel’s warming ties with Arab countries. In an op-ed appearing in Friday's Hebrew-language Yediot Ahronoth newspaper, Yousef al-Otaiba, the Emirates’ ambassador to the United States, appealed directly to Israelis to deter Prime Minister Binyamin Netanyahu from following through on his promise to extend Israeli sovereignty over parts of Judea and Samaria as early as next month.

Dr. Gadi Hitman, a lecturer in the Department of Middle Eastern Studies at Ariel University, told KAN's Naomi Segal that unilateral annexation moves by Israel represent a red line for Gulf states, and the Arab diplomat's publishing the article in the Israeli media was a way of underscoring this point.
