Archaeologist digging in ancient sites are used to uncovering artifacts from thousands of years ago. But excavating near the Western Wall plaza archaeologist came upon buried remnants of the not to distant past when they found a stash of ammunition, bayonets and rifle parts believed to have been hidden by Jordanian soldiers in the waning moments of the battle for the Old City in the 1967 Six Day’s War. Jordanian weapons meant to stop IDF troops in the Old City have now become archaeological treasures. Dr. Barak Monnickendam-Givon, co-director of the Western Wall Plaza Excavations of the Israel Antiquities Authority, told reporter Arieh O’Sullivan about the find.
