The Society for the Protection of Nature, Let Animals Live, and Animals have launched a campaign to to eradicate recreational hunting in Israel and to make more strict punishments for illegal hunting. The initiative came up as the annual hunting season is about to open at the end of the summer. There are some 2,000 licensed hunters in Israel who hunt tens of thousands of wildlife, mostly birds. Yonatan Meyrav, director of tourism and international events for the Society for the Protection of Nature in Israel told reporter Arieh O’Sullivan that there was also a direct link between hunting and the spread of the coronavirus.
