There are about 6,000 lone soldiers currently serving in the Israel Defense Forces. Lone soldiers either have no family in Israel, mostly new immigrants, or are estranged from their family, like those coming from haredi backgrounds. A new home for female lone soldiers was inaugurated recently in Jerusalem. The home is the latest project supported by the Lone Soldier Center in Memory of Michael Levin, an American-born soldier who fell in the 2006 Second Lebanon War. Naftali Condiotti, housing coordinator of the Center told reporter Arieh O’Sullivan about the new home.
