Starting next year, and decades after it was first proposed, large plastic bottles will now be included in the bottle deposit law. Environment Minister Gila Gamiliel made the decision yesterday on the heels of a High Court petition on the matter lodged by environmental NGO Adam Teva v’Din. Alon Tal, professor from the department of public policy at Tel Aviv University and a veteran environmental activist, praised the move, saying it would be a big step not only in recycling plastic bottles, but also reducing pollution. He told reporter Arieh O’Sullivan that the 20-year delay was due to peculiar intrigues in Israeli politics.
