While Defense Minister Benny Gantz told his visiting US counterpart that Israel would cooperate with Washington on Iran, his comments came on the heels of Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s warning that Israel would not be bound by any new deal on capping Iranian nuclear capabilities. Reserve Col. Eran Lerman, a former deputy National Security Adviser, and now vice president for the Jerusalem Institute for Strategy and Security, said there was no contradiction between the two positions. He also told reporter Arieh O’Sullivan that Israeli deterrence and intelligence helped keep the shadowy war with Iran from spinning out of control.
