Thursday night’s stampede during the annual Lag B’Omer festivities at Rabbi Shimon Bar-Yochai’s tomb on Mt. Meron, in which 45 men and boys were crushed to death, is  the worst civilian disaster in Israeli history.

Sunday was a day of national mourning; flags were flown at half-mast in state institutions, on IDF bases and at Israeli representative offices overseas.

KAN's Mark Weiss spoke about the Mount Meron tragedy with Rabbi Eliezer Simha Weisz, a member of the Rabbinate Council in Israel.
