The seven-year term of President Reuven Rivlin is over this summer and the presidential “race” has begun. The largely ceremonial role is elected in a secret vote by the 120-member Knesset and this year some political heavy-weights are vying for the position, including former Labor leader and Jewish Agency head Issac Herzog, and former minister Shimon Shetreet. Israeli-American Yosef Israel Abramowitz, also known as  “Captain Sunshine” because of his pioneering work with solar energy in Israel and abroad, has secured the candidacy of the environmental movement. He told reporter Arieh O’Sullivan that he already has MKs officially supporting him.
