Defense Minister Benny Gantz met on Sunday night in Ramallah with Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas in the first meeting in more than a decade between  Abbas and a senior Israeli minister.

Gantz outlined a series of economic goodwill gestures, including  granting residency rights to thousands of West Bank Palestinians with no legal status, advancing a 500 million shekel loan and granting permits for an additional 15,000 Palestinians to work inside Israel.

But Prime Minister Naftali Bennett was quick to stress there neither is nor will there be a peace process with the Palestinians.

KAN's Mark Weiss spoke with Middle East strategic intelligence analyst Avi Melamed about the significance of the Ramallah talks and developments in the West Bank and Gaza.
