Alongside the ongoing coronavirus vaccination campaign, Israel's health funds have begun  administering the flu vaccine. To date, fewer than a quarter million Israelis have received the jab, and health officials are urging citizens to get the flu vaccine. A recently published international study, which was also conducted in Israel, has shown that the flu vaccine may protect against several severe effects of COVID-19. Prof. Avishai Ellis, director of the department of internal medicine at Beilinson – Rabin Medical Center, and president of the Israeli society of internal medicine spoke to KAN reporter Naomi Segal about the importance of getting both the flu and coronavirus jabs. He was also asked about the impact of the protest by medical residents to shorten their on-call shifts.
