Israel forest fire fighting capabilities have just received a huge boost. Keren Kayemet Le’Israel – the Jewish National Fund - has received 4 brand-new, state-of-the-art fire engines today specially made to fight fires in the country. The fire trucks were inaugurated at a ceremony held today at the Sha'ar HaNegev Regional Council, located adjacent to the Gaza Strip, which has seen thousands of dunams of farmland and forests burned due to the incendiary balloons launched from the Hamas-run Gaza Strip. The European-made trucks are no ordinary fire engines, first of all they are not red but bright yellow and they have huge water tanks and a powerful, cabin-operated water cannon. Reporter Arieh O’Sullivan spoke with Andy Michaelson, the head of protocol and ceremonies and events for Keren Kayemet L’Israel, who said the trucks are built to get to the source of the fires as quickly as possible.
