Prominent American-Jewish organizations have condemned the controversial political union Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu urged between the Jewish Home and extremist Otzma Yehudit parties. In a rare comment on internal Israeli politics, the pro-Israel lobby AIPAC denounced the far-right party Otzma Yehudit as racist and reprehensible, endorsing an earlier statement issued by the American Jewish Committee (AJC). The AIPAC statement did not mention Netanyahu, and a day after its rebuke of the merger, AIPAC confirmed Netanyahu as a speaker at its policy conference in Washington, DC, next month. KAN's Naomi Segal asked Lt. Col. (res.) Avital Leibovich, director of AJC Jerusalem, why the organization decided to speak out on the issue.
