Yiannis Boutaris , mayor of the Greek city of Thessaloniki, is in Israel this week  to participate in Holocaust Martyrs' and Heroes' Remembrance Day events at the Ghetto Fighters' House at Kibbutz Lohamei Hagetaot.

Thessaloniki , also known as Saloniki, was known as the Jerusalem of the Balkans. Before the Nazi invasion more than 50,000 Jews lived in the coastal city which boasted one of the most vibrant Jewish centers in Europe. KAN's Mark Weiss asked Boutaris what was the purpose of his visit.
