Staff Sergeant Nissim Sean Carmeli, a 21-year-old Golani brigade fighter from Raanana, had immigrated with his parents to Israel from Texas while in high school, joining his two sisters who were already here. Though his parents divided their time between Israel and the US, Sean decided after graduation to remain in Israel, and enlist in the IDF.  He was killed in battle in Gaza on July 20, 2014, during Operation Protective Edge.

Before the funeral, a social media call went out to pay last respects to the lone soldier, drawing a crowd of some 20 thousand people.  Last year, Sean's memory was honored at the Masa Israel Memorial Day ceremony in Latrun. KAN's Naomi Segal heard more about Sean from his sister, Gal.
