Residents of south Tel Aviv blamed municipal neglect of infrastructure in the deaths of Dean Shoshani and Stav Harari, a young couple in their 20s who drowned after being trapped in an elevator in a building that flooded due to heavy rainfall on Saturday. There was also a significant delay in the arrival of rescue services, as emergency hotlines were inundated with calls during the stormy weather. Tel Aviv mayor Ron Huldai said the city had invested significant sums in infrastructure, but no system could have overcome Saturday's extreme rainfall. Shula Keshet, a south Tel Aviv social activist and opposition member of the Tel Aviv city council told KAN reporter Naomi Segal the tragic incident was part of broader neglect of south Tel Aviv neighborhoods.
