Israel’s newly appointed coronavirus czar Professor Ronni Gamzu has handed over key elements of combatting the pandemic to the army.

The IDF will take control of the country's contact tracing program and will take responsibility for the for "red areas" with the highest infection rates and will coordinate its plans with the local municipalities.

Gamzu hopes his Shield of Israel plan will avoid the need for future lockdowns and what he termed "illogical restrictions."

He also intends to raise testing capacity up to 60,000 tests per day by forming new coronavirus laboratories.

KAN's Mark Weiss asked Dr Micky Dor from Ariel University's Department of Health Systems Management, if Professor  Gamzu was the right man for the job.
