Israel's Religious Services Minister Matan Kahana has announced plans to overhaul kashrut supervision in an effort to open the sector to competition and improve the level of services. In addition, the minister has pledged to reform the conversion system in Israel, returning authority over the process to municipal rabbis.

KAN reporter Naomi Segal spoke about the planned reforms with Rabbi David Stav, chief rabbi of the city of Shoham and chairman of the Tzohar rabbinical organization, who welcomed them as a positive step.
